Spatial Reasoning

چکیده
Spatial reasoning is the mental transformation of spatial knowledge. Such transformation is an integral component of everyday cognition, occurring within a variety of domains such as attention, memory and language, and across a variety of tasks, spatial and non-spatial alike. The structure of this chapter is as follows. In Section 1 we discuss the core components of spatial reasoning, including spatial representations, spatial processes and spatial memory. In Section 2 we discuss basic spatial tasks, including navigation, giving directions, imaginal perspective taking, spatial inference, and visualization. In Section 3 we discuss the broader influence of space beyond such basic spatial tasks, as reflected in spatial compatibility effects, the use of space to understand abstract concepts, and reasoning by spatial analogy. In Section 4, we discuss neural systems that underlie our spatial abilities, individual differences, and learning. Finally, in Section 5, we discuss open questions for future research. Section 1. Core Components of Spatial Reasoning

Spatial analysis as the main approach of geography was reviewed and searched through its historical development. The results of this exploratory research showed that this approach was born after the Second World War due to the overall interest of geographers to develop universal theories and laws. The advocators of this field believed that the old regional geography was not able to develop ...
متن کاملThe Analysis of Spatial Relationships in Village Houses Based on a Social Approach (Case Study: Village Koopar)
Different factors affect the formation of rural house spaces that are generally associated with environmental factors such as climate and geographical characteristics along with human factors such as cultural and social factors. One of the most important of them is the cultural-social factors that makes it possible to reach a spatial understanding and the concepts which are presented in the arc...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF POSTERIOR CEREBRAL PULMONARY DIRECT ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (TDCS) ON IMPROVING SPATIAL, VISUAL, AND VERBAL PERCEPTUAL ABILITIES
Background & Aims: Direct electrical stimulation of the brain is a therapeutic technique that can be effective in improving visual, verbal, and spatial perception. The present study investigated the effect of direct electrical stimulation (tDCS) of the posterior parietal cortex on improving spatial, visual, and verbal perceptual abilities. Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study,...

Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...
متن کاملQualitative Spatial Reasoning: Framework and Frontiers
Spatial reasoning is a diverse topic: what might different spatial tasks have in common? One task where substantial progress has been made is qualitative spatial reasoning about motion. Unlike qualitative dynamics, purely qualitative spatial representations have not proven fruitful. Instead, a diagrammatic representation appears to be necessary. This paper begins by outlining the Metric Diagram...
